Satire at it's finest

Satire at its finest.  To all that have seen “Monte Python’s Life of Brian” you can understand how one can take a serious part of history, the crucifixion of Christ, and turn it into a comedy film.  The film begins when three wise men who travel a long distance to see Jesus.  They of course get mixed up and walk into the wrong stable (Brian’s stable) and give their gold frankenses and mer to the young boy as an offering.  Just as they leave, they find the real Jesus, and run back in the stable to take their offerings back.  The film continues on like this throughout.
Through an odd series of the people come to think that Brian is the Messiah.  Everything that he says, they take it to be a prophecy, or a miracle.  He is then chased by a large crowd, where everyone just wants to hear him speak and interpret what he means.  One example is when Brian is running away from the mob of followers and loses a sandal.  The mob finds his sandal and they believe that it is a sign that the Messiah is trying to tell them something.  The interpretations that they are arguing over are, “Maybe he wants us to collect as many sandals as we can so that everyone will be of one sandal like the messiah,” and “Maybe he wants us to think about not the outer garments, but the inner person. That is why he left his sandal.”
The movie ends with Brian getting crucified along with 140 others.  One man in the group even got crucified on accident because he was going to carry the cross for another man.  That other man then ran off and the Romans made the new guy take his place.  They fade out the seen singing the song “Look on the bright side of life”.
Only a Monte Python movie could take such a serious moment in history and portray it with such satire and they accomplish it with much ease. If you haven’t had a good laugh in a while I would definitely recommend watching this movie.
