Cesar Chavez and the dinner Salad

March 31, 2008 / by bloganator

Who was Cesar Chavez, and what does he have to do with my dinner salad?  Well, I used to order a Cesar Chavez, and I would think it had to do with Rome or something.  Little did I know that I was completely wrong.

Cesar Chavez was born on 1927 in Arizona.  He grew up working from farm to farm from Arizona to California with his family.  When he graduated 8th grade, he became a full time worker on the farms.  After many years of suffering through unfair labor conditions and low pay wages, he joined the United Farm Workers (UFW) association.  Through peaceful tactics and public support of the union, Cesar Chavez and workers of the UFW were able to negotiate contracts for higher wages and better working conditions for agricultural workers.  He also organized many boycotts against grape and lettuce growers until the demands were met of improved working conditions and salary increases.  Millions of lives have were changed because Cesar Chavez took a stand and fought for what was right.

Now, when you order a Cesar salad at your next restaurant, don’t be dumb like I was.  Remember what Cesar Chavez did for many Americans and the impact he made.
